We spoke with Scott Redman about what inspired him to get involved in the cannabis industry, a brief summary of Drecisco Farms and his role, as well as what inspired him to start IICGA and the organization’s goal.
“A few clients came to me in 2019 and asked me to spearhead their Illinois applications. In doing so, i became immersed in the new Illinois law and associated with many of the other Illinois applicants and industry participants.
Drecisco Farms is one of the initial 40 social equity craft growers. It also has separate infuser and transport licenses. My partners and I have substantial experience in the commercial candy manufacturing industry, me as counsel and the other two as the CEO and the Director of Operations of a large candy company here in the Chicago area. We will use that manufacturing experience and expertise to create and operate a grow, extraction and infusion facility efficiently and in compliance with not only Illinois law but GMP principles as well. Long term my role will be general counsel. Currently, however, I am still in the spearheading role along with our new CFO, Alisa Brill.
When the licenses were delayed in the summer of 2020, it became clear to me that the MSOs had their own agenda and that craft growers needed to have their own trade association and voice. While other associations had a broader membership, I felt that IICGA needed to focus on the unique issues facing craft growers. Once the licenses were issued, IICGA started accepting members.” Scott Redman
